With thanks to a previous donation of £10,000 from the United Families & Friends Campaign (UFFC) and Migrant Media (through the Legacy Fund), the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund (NMPMFF) is poised to relaunch the Holiday Scheme Initiative in 2024 supporting children, young people and families.
The Holiday Scheme application process will be made simpler for applicants, (see previous process here). meaning individual families can apply. Strict criteria will ensure that recently bereaved, children/young people and/or those affected by delayed or re-emerged trauma etc, receive priority considerations for any awards.
There are no expectations on applicants to provide formal feedback.
We will be seeking to open the Holiday Fund grants process in July/August 2024, and also introducing our LIVE Q&A sessions online.
We will continue to administer the UFFC Legacy Fund (in partnership with Migrant Media) while resources are available.
Ken Fero of Migrant Media said;
"The public awareness and support after the killing of George Floyd had strengthened this initiative which goes directly to improve the lives of families impacted by state violence in
the UK. We support this important grassroots initiative and urge others to join.
When the state fails us, the people must act"
Tippa Naphtali, founder of the NMPMFF said;
"The ongoing pain of affected families often gets lost in the equally important work of
campaigning and lobbying of the state. We are extremely grateful for the support of the
UFFC Legacy Fund which will help us launch one of our key aspirational initiatives"
The Family Fund Holiday Scheme Initiative
From July/August 2024 the NMPMFF will provide resourcing for respite breaks, group outings and short UK-based holidays tailored for children, young people and families affected by custody deaths and killings. These may include river and coach tours, activity and theme parks, and self-catering breaks in some of the UK's areas of outstanding beauty.
Working closely with our Assessment Partners throughout the country, the NMPMFF will consider applications for a range of social activities that are requested by the applicants in UK-wide localities. Resources will be made available to successful applicants to help cover the costs of their respite breaks, group outings and short UK-based holidays.
Some basic criteria and conditions would apply. Further updates to follow!
