We currently have three core* and one supplementary funding programmes!
Their active periods are dependent on available financial resources.
*The Crisis Family Fund is generally open to applications for urgent needs.
Priority will be given to the recently bereaved or those facing renewed or delayed trauma.
Conditions apply | View / Download full guide
*The Family Support Fund (currently suspended) is open to more generalised applications announced periodically for limited periods. A range of very low-cost products and services for affected families are available in the NMPMFF Give-Back Shop - www.memorialfamilyfund.org.uk/give-back-shop
*The Holiday Scheme Initiative will provide contributions towards respite breaks, outings and short UK-based holidays tailored for children, young people and families that have been affected by state custody deaths and killings.
Priority will be given to the recently bereaved or those facing renewed or delayed trauma).
The UFFC Legacy Fund is open to applications for children and descendants of death in custody/police killing victims, who are at a point where the funds awarded will make a material difference to their wellbeing and/or development (while limited funds remain). See full details

Very Important: To ensure a fair distribution of grants, multiple members of the same family cannot register as 'Family Applicants' - in such cases they should register as a family campaign (using a name of their choice), with a specific individual as the main contact person. We may offer some discretion on a case-by-case basis.
An individual / representative / campaign group acting on behalf of family members and / or friends of someone that has died in suspicious circumstances either following police contact or custody, in prison, mental health, immigration and other state / statutory institutions in the UK.
Affected families (active or not, past or present) can apply to the National Memorial Family Fund.
Potential applicants should note that their campaign groups must be active (if applicable), UK-based and financially independent of any private company or enterprise, funded organisation or registered charity to be eligible. You should also register on this website.
An individual / representative / campaign group that is actively donating at least £2 p/month to the Family Fund appeal are likely to receive a higher priority when available funds are very limited.
The National Memorial Family Fund will not support applications from any combination of the following:
* Please Note: Further applications will be considered after the 4-month period has elapsed.
This is to ensure that the limited resources of the fund can support as many families and campaign groups as possible.
In certain circumstances this condition will be wavered depending on the situation that a family or campaign find themselves in, or if the fund holds a significant balance.
Firstly, make sure you're registered!
You only have to register once - we'll then send you a permanent unique campaign reference number (CRN). You should make a careful note of this for future reference - it's like a 'passport' to our grants and future services.
The Crisis Family Fund
This is a fund that will always be open for applications (subject to available resources) in-between the standard grant rounds programme which are intermittent.
This is a fast-track process for urgent requests only. Family Fund Assessment Partners will largely drive the application process, with quick decisions made by our administrative team.
The first stage of the current process (registration and grant limits) will still apply, but from that point forward there is a simple endorsement process with the Memorial Family Fund - and that's it!
The Family Support Fund (currently suspended)
The National Memorial Family Fund will open this stream for applications intermittently, and details will be provided on the Family Fund and 4WardEver UK & Mikey Powell websites / social networks / newsletters etc, and will also be provided to our assessment partners in advance.
There is no complex application form required to apply to the National Memorial Family Fund, provided that your campaign / group meets the basic criteria set out above.
You should first make contact with one of our Assessment Partners (see the 'Quick Guide' page for details). They will assist you with submitting your application to us.
Important: The NMPMFF cannot advise or assist applicants with completing applications - you should consult one of our assessment partners in this respect.
Follow the 6-step guide and you can’t go wrong!

It is very important that all applicants follow the advice below in the order of appearance, this is to ensure that they are both eligible and ready to submit an application.
Here are the key steps regardless of which funding programme is being applied to:
Step1: Applicant registers (One-time / Lifetime) and chooses an Assessment Partner. You may use a different partner for each future application if you wish.
Step2: Family Fund confirms registration with the Applicant and copies this to an Assessment Partner when required.
Step3: Applicant and Assessment Partner make contact to discuss needs / progress to the next step.
Step4: Assessment Partner consults the Applicant and (where required) submits an online application or simply contacts the NMPMFF (verification of applicants consultation with an Assessment Partner is required). Crisis Fund conditions apply
Step5: Family Fund contacts applicant and Assessment Partner with a decision.
Step6: The Family Fund may contact Assessment Partner and/or applicants for voluntary grant feedback (within 3 months).
The short answer is 'yes', but there are some conditions that apply:
Further details of the Crisis Family Fund are available on the Applications Process page.
Some standard and Holiday Fund grants may need to be submitted online. The application form may request one or more of the following details:
Please state your acceptance that the National Memorial Family Fund may require some basic voluntary feedback about how any Family Support Funds awarded were used.

4WardEverUK is the primary assessor. Application Assessment Partners in various locations will:
We will ensure that the application process is kept as simple as possible for those applying to ensure they are not burdened with yet more bureaucracy at a time that is in itself already difficult.
The Final Assessment Panel would consider applications based on:
1. The urgency of need expressed via local Assessment Partner panels
2. Where an application sits in the waiting list (by date of receipt)
3. The resources available within the fund at any given time
Grants will generally be between £50 to a maximum of £250 (more may be awarded at our discretion dependent upon the need identified). Some grants awarded may be less (or more) than the amount requested dependent on available funds we hold at any given time.
Applications will only be opened when the National Memorial Family Fund holds sufficient financial resources at any given time.

Across all of our grant programmes funds can be available for a range of things including (but not exclusively) the following:
Grants for other purposes will be considered within reason. Affected families (active or not, past or present) can apply to the National Memorial Family Fund.
Payment of grants will normally be made within 21 days of being awarded by cheque or direct payment, and made payable to a valid UK bank account.
The bank account should be in the name of the campaign group, unless the application was made by an individual and agreed on that basis.
Cheques / payments will normally be sent to the named person and address held on our files at the time of the grant application unless advised otherwise.
Please Note: Grants are not repayable to the National Memorial Family Fund.
We encourage the recipients of grants (issued after July 2024) to provide us with some basic voluntary feedback of how the funds were used.
No! Grants are not repayable to the National Mikey Powell Memorial Family Fund.
We encourage the recipients of grants (issued after July 2024) to provide us with some basic voluntary feedback of how the funds were used.
While there is no strict condition to provide feedback of the grants awarded, we would encourage recipients to provide us with some voluntary feedback of how the funds were used. This helps us to make a case to donors and funders.
We prefer feedback to be sent using our online options, but you can also send your feedback in a statement no longer than 600 words / two sides of A4 paper, or in an email.
We also ask (where appropriate) that you submit 3 to 5 images of the activity that the fund has supported. These will be used for publicity purposes.
The UFFC Legacy Fund is open to applications for children of death in custody/police killing victims, who are at a point where the funds awarded will make a material difference to their wellbeing and/or development (while funds remain). See full details

The National Memorial Family Fund is the first permanent national resource of its kind specifically for those affected by deaths and killings in custody or state neglect, making small grants available for families and their campaign groups across the UK to provide practical domestic assistance and campaign support.
